Meta Ecommerce Events Setup

You can return to our guide to enhanced ecommerce tracking in Rezgo for additional steps or to learn more about Rezgo’s advanced analytics.

In this article, you will learn how to set up Meta/Facebook standard events using the Rezgo GTM recipe for Meta. This recipe covers six events – PageView, ViewContent, AddToCart, InitiateCheckout, AddPaymentInfo, and Purchase – and includes standard parameters like contents for the Meta catalog, as well as user-provided data for the advanced matching feature.

Prerequisites

  1. Google Tag Manager is installed on your website (parent frame), and you have publish rights (more info).
  2. Meta pixel ID (more info).
  3. Rezgo base listener tag published via Google Tag Manager.

Importing the Google Ads recipe

To simplify your setup, we provide a pre-configured GTM container file.

  1. Download the Rezgo Meta Recipe here: Meta Ads.json
  2. In GTM, navigate to Admin > Import Container.
  3. Choose the downloaded file and select your existing workspace.
  4. Important: Choose Merge as the import option and select Rename conflicting tags to ensure you don’t overwrite your existing setup.
  5. Click Confirm.

Configuration steps

After importing, you must link the tags to your specific Meta pixel.

  1. Navigate to variables, open [Rezgo] Meta – pixel id, and add your pixel id.
  2. Check for an existing Meta Pixel that could clash

This recipe fires Meta standard events such as ViewContent, AddToCart, InitiateCheckout, and Purchase. If your site already has a pixel sending these events, they will be counted twice and can disrupt your ad optimization. Check before you publish.

In Google Tag Manager, look for other Meta Pixel tags that fire standard events, especially Purchase, and pause or remove the ones that duplicate this recipe.

Check for a pixel added by a plugin (on WordPress, tools like PixelYourSite) or hardcoded in your site. A single base pixel is fine, but if it is also firing Purchase or other standard events, turn that part off so only the recipe fires them.

Confirm with the Meta Pixel Helper browser extension, or with Test Events in Events Manager: run a test booking and watch the events. If the same event appears twice, remove the duplicate source.

  • Enter Preview Mode in GTM and perform a test booking on your booking website. You should see the ecommerce events appearing in the summary column and the Meta tags firing successfully.

Once verified, hit publish in GTM.
